The Entrance examination would consist of two papers i.e. 1st paper consisting of three parts of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of equal weightage with objective type questions for BE/B.Tech courses and 2nd paper – consisting of Mathematics,Aptitude Test and Drawing for B. Architecture and B. Planning. The Aptitude Test is designed to evaluate candidate’s perception, imagination, observation, creativity and architectural awareness. There will be objective type questions with four options having single correct answer. For each incorrect response one third of the total marks allotted to the question would be deducted. More than one answer indicated against a question will be deemed as incorrect response and will be negatively marked.

The question papers for the Examination shall be based on a common minimum syllabus drawn from syllabi taught in different State Boards. Candidates can opt for question papers either in English or in Hindi. The option has to be exercised while filling Application Form. It cannot be changed later.

The number of attempts which the candidate can avail at All India Engineering/Architecture Entrance Examination shall be limited to three, uniformly for all the candidates in consecutive years. But , as a one time exemption, a candidate who have already availed three attempts or more will be permitted to appear in All India Engineering/Architecture Examination 2008 as a last chance.

On the basis of performance in AIEEE, separate rank lists will be prepared for B.E./B.Tech. and B.Arch/B.Planning. Score Card indicating All India Rank and State Rank with total marks and marks in each subject shall be sent to all candidates appearing in AIEEE.

The bank has plans to enter the retail lending space with a special student loan offering in April 2010. The bank is working to create bandwidths with various educational institutions on a countrywide magnitude to kick off its new business.

Rana Kapoor, founder and managing director of the bank, said, “That is going to create a robust environment for education loans in India.”

Education has been one of the focus areas of this year budget and presents good business opportunity, as Kapoor feels- “Higher government allocations and increased spending by the Indian hoi-polloi on education are expected to fuel growth of private education institutions in India.”

Commenting on the product selection (education loans), Kapoor said, “Somewhere between 150 and 250 branches there is a window for us to look at education loans. We have a university and school relations function in our bank. These relationships make only natural for us to cascade an educational loan product.”

The bank plans to scale up its branch count to 250 by the end of next fiscal from the existing number and also has plans for increasing its ATM count to 3000 by 2015 in pipeline.

“We wanted to make sure we have the reach before we make an entry into the retail lending market. At 100 plus branches, we have critical momentum but we get size and scale only at 250,” Kapoor added.

Presently, small and medium enterprises form more than ninety percent of the bank` lending portfolio, as revealed by Kapoor – “More than 90% of the bank’s advances are currently towards large and mid-size corporate clients. Retail advances, comprising small business loans, stood at only 1.1% of total loan book as on March 31, 2009.”

Considering the uncertain economic climate and risk involved, many foreign banks have been scaling down their retail lendings. BNP Paribas and Bank of America are major foreign banks in India, which are not in to retail lending space.

One of the major young private players in India, Yes Bank is the only Greenfield licensed bank in period of last 14 years.

The minister proposes to do away with Class 10 board exams. Sibal said the examination-based system was a source of trauma for both parents and students.

“There has to be an alternative system other than exams,” Sibal said. According to the minister, since the student continued in the same school even after Class 10, board exams were not required.

Sibal said the HRD ministry will consult and take into confidence the state education boards before taking a final decision.

“It’s a decision we will take after consultations with schools,” the minister said.

As colleges reopen in a few weeks from now girls in Kanpur may have to overhaul their wardrobes. Chances are most of them will not be allowed to wear jeans to college anymore.

Authorities of four womenonly colleges in the district have banned the outfit- withan- attitude the youth swear by. In fact, all western outfits worn by women have been banned.

The college authorities believe jeans and its ilk are to blame for rising incidents of girls being teased by men on campuses. So, instead of cracking down on the offenders, the authorities have cracked down on the girls they tease. Or the outfits they wear.

The colleges that will enforce the controversial decision are the Dayanand Degree College, Acharya Narendra Dev College, Sen Balika College and Johari Degree College. All of them are affiliated to the Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj University, Kanpur.

The institute plans to admit 120 students this July in three streams. The faculty will continue to come from IIT Chennai even as it plans to induct some faculty shortly from the many applications that it received. IIT-H is also keen to recruit retired IIT faculty settled in and around Hyderabad to become self sufficient by 2010. Research will be a key focus area for IIT-H, Desai said, adding that about 35 M.Techs will be admitted this July. The institute also plans to admit about 10-15 PhDs. Last year, it admitted 11 research scholars. The research areas will span across computer science,  chemical, electrical and mechanical engineering streams. “Faculty research will be promoted in a big way,” said Desai.

IIT-H admitted 111 students last year and majority of them hailed from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. At present, the institute is offering B.Tech courses in electrical, mechanical and computer science streams. The library, which now has text-book material in about 1,000 titles, would add a fully functional reference library with subscriptions to online journals by July.
